We started the 2017 gallery program at Živi Atelje DK (Living Atelier DK) with the opening of the solo exhibition of Maša Bajc.
About the artist’s work—in her own words
With the series of photographs “Beyond silence” I deal with the subjective interaction with space as well as with the experience of nature as the ideal refuge (place of solitude, peace and quiet). The idea of a landscape assumes a certain relationship between people and nature that conditions the vision and understanding. In my work the assumption is that spaces (as much as photographs) which surround us, consist of visible (material) and invisible structures (those we feel – the atmosphere). Through my photographs I create meeting points of our inner world with the outer. What is so often called “escape to nature” is not necessarily escape from reality but, rather, encounter of a “new,” maybe to us unfamiliar, reality. Because of that, these photographs do not attempt to express a clear narrative but to convey traces of experiences, as documentary as they are fictional. The place of each photograph should be the place of encounter of a different reality.
About the artist
Maša was born in 1980, in Čakovec. She mostly uses photography and similar mediums in her artistic expression. Her work is often rooted in personal experiences of nature and spatiality of the world that surrounds us. Following her studies of economy at the University of Zagreb she obtained a post graduate degree, MFA in Imaging Arts, at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. She has had many collective and solo exhibitions in Croatia and internationally. She currently works as an assistant professor of photography at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. Maša is a member of the Croatian Association of Artists.
Maša Bajc’s exhibition lasted until Saturday, 21 January and was open again for viewing during Zagreb’s Museum Night on 27 January.

Ovogodišnji program galerije Živi Atelje DK otvaramo u srijedu, 18. siječnja u 19 sati sa samostalnom izložbom Maše Bajc.
Autorica o izložbi:
U seriji fotografija Poslije tišine bavim se subjektivnim doživljajem prostora, a tematski i iskustvom prirode kao idealnim utočištem (mjesto samoće, mira i tišine). Ideja pejzaža pretpostavlja određene odnose između ljudi i prirode koji utječu na način na koji ga vidimo i razumijevamo. U svom radu polazim od pretpostavke da se prostori (kao i fotografija) koji nas okružuju sastoje od vidljivih (one koje vidimo, materijalne) i nevidljivih struktura (one koje osjećamo, atmosfere). Kroz fotografije nastojim stvarati mjesta koja spajaju naš unutarnji svijet sa vanjskim. “Bijeg u prirodu” nije nužno bijeg od realnosti, već može biti i susret sa novom, nepoznatom realnosti. Iz tog razloga fotografije ne čine određeni narativ već tragove iskustava, koliko dokumentarnih, toliko i fiktivnih, koji omogućuju susret sa drugačijom realnosti kroz samo mjesto fotografije.
O autorici izložbe:
Rođena 1980. godine u Čakovcu. U svojoj umjetničkoj praksi najviše koristi fotografiju i srodne medije. Njen se rad često temelji na osobnom iskustvu poimanja prirode i prostora te svijeta koji nas okružuje. Diplomirala je na Ekonomskom fakultetu u Zagrebu. Fotografiju je magistrirala 2010. na Rochester Institute of Technology u Rochesteru, savezna država NY, gdje stječe diplomu MFA in Imaging Arts. Izlagala je na samostalnim i skupnim izložbama u zemlji i inozemstvu. Zaposlena je kao asistentica na Katedri za fotografiju Akademije dramske umjetnosti u Zagrebu.
Izložba ostaje otvorena do subote, 21.1. i biti će dostupna i tijekom Noći muzeja 27.1.2017.
