▶ Who is the author of this work? How did it come about? These questions arise while we stand before an artwork, the final product presented in a sterile gallery space, removed from its natural environment and detached from the creator. We often don’t know more about the author than the text presented to us at the exhibition. Finely written, polished and purified.
Turning away from the completed work and accentuating the process, change, deliberation, continuity, Mia Maraković approaches her works in a different way, analyzing herself and her art. She confronts her own expectations by intervening in a specific medium, which she builds on by mapping her reality on several levels, transforming unwanted books and painful memories into her diaries. Occasionally the ethereal bond of literature and fine art is poured into the blackness of brutal literality, indirectness and self-reflection.
The artist has been creating art diaries for the past five years, and her decision to publicly display them places her irreversibly bare before the gallery audience, sincerely expressing her fears, insecurities, pain, joy and dreams. By intertwining the two nominally dominant forms, she plays with the semantics and introduces an observer into the sphere of intimacy, guiding the observer to face him or herself through a sort of therapeutic process, the same one the artist went through in creating the diaries. She speaks of her vulnerability in true and raw form, paints, doodles, poses witty questions about love and transience, counsels herself and writes motivational notes, her personality looming over every page, thus enticing an illusionary kinship with the observer, unlike the daily routine marked by emotional detachment.

▶ Mia Maraković (1990) has a master of fine art education from the Fine Art Academy in Zagreb. She is the recipient of the Dean’s Award in 2016 for the project Life Beneath the Sun and a special award at the Student International Art Biennial exhibition in Skopje in 2017.
▶ Exhibition opening is on Wednesday, December 5 at 19:00 (7 pm). The exhibition remains open until December 8, workdays from 18:00 (6 pm) to 20:00 (8 pm), Saturday from 11:00 (11 am) to 14:00 (2 pm).

▶ Tko je autor ovog rada? Kako je nastajao? Pitanja su koja se nameću dok stojimo pred umjetničkim djelom, finalnim proizvodom izloženim u sterilnom galerijskom prostoru, izdvojenim iz svog prirodnog okruženja i odvojenim od tvorca. Često o autoru ne znamo više od teksta koji nam je uručen na izložbi. Lijepo napisanog, ispoliranog i pročišćenog teksta.
Okrećući se od dovršenog i stavljajući naglasak na proces, mijenu, promišljanje, kontinuitet, Mia Maraković svojim djelima pristupa na drugačiji način, preispitujući sebe i svoju umjetnost. Suočava se s vlastitim očekivanjima intervenirajući u specifičan medij, koji nadograđuje mapirajući svoju realnost na nekoliko razina, transformirajući neželjene knjige i bolne uspomene u svoje dnevnike. Mjestimično prozračan spoj književnosti i likovnosti pretače se u crnilo brutalne doslovnosti, neposrednosti i autorefleksije.
Umjetnica likovne dnevnike radi posljednjih pet godina, a odlukom da ih javno izloži nepovratno se ogoljava pred galerijskom publikom, nepatvoreno iznoseći svoje strahove, nesigurnosti, bol, radosti i sanjarenja. Ispreplitanjem dviju nominalno dominantnih formi, poigrava se semantikom i uvodi promatrača u sferu intimističkog, navodeći ga na suočavanje sa samim sobom kroz svojevrsni terapijski proces, koji prilikom stvaranja dnevnika proživljava i umjetnica. U istinskoj i sirovoj formi ona progovara o svojoj ranjivosti, oslikava, šara, postavlja dovitljiva pitanja o ljubavi i prolaznosti, savjetuje se i ispisuje motivacijske poruke, nadvijajući se svojom osobnošću nad svakom stranicom, tako pobuđujući iluzornu bliskost s promatračem, spram svakodnevice obilježene emocionalnom otuđenošću.

▶ Mia Maraković (1990.) stekla je naziv magistre edukacije likovne kulture na Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu. Sudjelovala je na pedesetak skupnih izložbi i održala šest samostalnih. Dobitnica je Rektorove nagrade 2016. godine za projekt Život ispod sunca i posebne nagrade na izložbi Student International Art Biennal u Skopju 2017. godine.
▶ Otvorenje izložbe u srijedu, 5. prosinca u 19 sati. Izložba je otvorena do 8. prosinca, radnim danom od 18 do 20 sati, a subotom od 11 do 14 sati.
